Traditional tradesmen like to praise the way
things used to be done, but there are some old trends which are now frowned
upon and for which they’re thankful are no longer popular. Take this bathroom section for example:
The limestone was chipped away so that tiles could be smoothly aligned with the rows above. Not only was it a very
time consuming job back in the day, it also weakened the structure, albeit not too dangerously.
We had two bathrooms like that, and both had to be patched right back up (luckily, the old tiles had already been stripped away before we bought the place). Here’s the above example, as it is now:
New tiles will go up to the ceiling, covering
up the more forgettable side of the past.
